Job Title: Environmental and Materials Test Engineer

Location: Crawley, UK – Travel, as required, to other UK sites to support Environmental and materials testing.

Security Clearance: SC clearance required/must be able to attain a minimum level of UK security clearance.

About the role

You will work with System and Hardware Engineers to ensure that their products are suitably designed and manufactured to operate in the environmental conditions they are expected to be placed in.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform Environmental and materials testing activities within an in-house test facility to evaluate and demonstrate equipment capability.
  • Perform Environmental and materials testing in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate test readiness activities for projects to ensure successful transition into test.
  • Support Project design reviews and meetings.
  • Manage customer expectations concerning product and materials testing/evaluation.
  • Ensure that processes and tools are fit for purpose and propose justified alternatives where pertinent.
  • Assist with or lead the development of new test methods and procedures.
  • Maintain the Lab quality manual and procedures manual as necessary.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience:

  • Extensive knowledge of Environmental and materials testing standards (e.g. RTCA DO-160G, DEF STAN 00-035, MIL-STD-810G) and matching hands-on testing experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of vibration and climatic testing and associated equipment
  • Good understanding of materials sciences
  • Familiar with failure analysis, using NDT techniques (e.g. X-Ray, FTIR, XRF, microscopy)
  • Familiar with various mechanical testing, such as tensile/compressive testing, pressure testing and leak testing.
