The incumbent of the post will be responsible for contributing to the efficient running of the Operations Room whilst acting as Line Manager to two AO staff, and ensuring the shared management of the JCCC Ops Day Team to maintain, monitor and manage the provision of support for the Armed Forces Community related to worldwide casualty and compassionate repatriation, post death administration and mass casualty incidents.
The Post Holder Will Need To Ensure That Casework Is Being Progressed Efficiently And Resourced Correctly Whilst Dealing With Casualty And Compassionate Cases In a Timely, Accurate And Sensitive Manner By:
- Tasking Services/Units to provide notification and support to families of casualties
- Ensuring the appropriate arrangements are made for transporting relatives overseas to the bedside of the injured and for arranging the repatriation of the deceased.
- Liaison with Civil authorities over occurrences involving Service Personnel.
- Briefing Higher authorities as necessary on high profile cases and entering and maintaining full details of cases on appropriate databases.
- Action requests for compassionate travel for entitled personnel serving overseas to return to the UK when circumstances dictate. This will involve liaison with other agencies to arrange transport and support and deciding on the appropriate priority of travel.
This post can be very busy and the duties often demanding, dealing with bereaved families and potentially distressing matters. An understanding of military personnel procedures and an extensive understanding of the organisational structures of the 3 Services is highly desirable.
The incumbent will also be required to participate and manage an 'on call' roster for augmentation of the JCCC in the event of a major casualty incident, or an unexpectedly high workload outside normal office hours, for which an on-call allowance will be paid.
The post holder will require strong IT skills to explore future IT developments and their incorporation into the JCCC processes, whilst also acting as SME for MODNET which includes liaising with project leads, attending meetings relating to the introduction of any new system, compiling associated paperwork to assist the DBS Lead and developing and issuing clear, concise desk instructions to the Ops Room Team. They will also be required to undertake JPA User Acceptance Testing on behalf of the Ops Room.
The post holder will in time, help contribute towards Casualty Policy and will liaise regularly with Single Services and MOD Staff. There is also a strong element of dealing with the preparation of submissions for Secretariat Staff so sound written skills are essential.
The incumbent must be IT literate and familiar with JPA and Microsoft packages. This post is office based.
