The east hospitality team at University of Bath have a 40-week kitchen porter position available, ideal for those wanting extra time off (including a 7-week break over Christmas and New Year). As a member of the General Porters team, you will work a variety of shifts, on a 5 out of 7 days contract, in a bustling kitchen environment. Comprehensive training will be provided, enabling you to become an integral part of the operation that delivers exceptional food and drink services to the community of the University of Bath.
During term time, the porter role will include early, late and some weekend shifts. You will be in a team of 7 full time porters covering three busy kitchens, two of which are open 7 days a week. The shifts are scheduled on a weekly rota and will rotate around the three kitchens. We do expect our team to be flexible and adaptable and support the wider hospitality operation, this could involve working in other areas too. The weekly shift pattern consists of straight shifts only, no split shifts.
The 40-week contract is to cover the university term time periods and part of our busy summer commercial period. The 40-week contract has 12 weeks fixed time off, which is outlined below. Personal holidays for the 40-week role will be included in this fixed time off period. Note that the advertised salary is pro rata for the 40-week position.
- 7 full weeks off over Christmas and New Year
- 2 full weeks off over Easter
- 1 full week in June
- 2 full weeks at the end of August
You will have a proactive, can-do attitude and serve as a valuable teammate, supporting a variety of tasks and responsibilities throughout your shift. With a positive attitude and a flexible approach, you can effectively handle fast-paced situations and adjust to changing priorities. You will be capable of working independently, ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently and effectively. You will provide an excellent standard of customer service.
This kitchen porter role will be supporting the food outlets on campus with the below:
- delivering and receiving stock
- maintaining excellent hygiene standards
- operating dishwashers
- carrying out daily cleaning of kitchen equipment, cutlery and crockery
- setting up tables and furniture.
Both bonuses are subject to terms and conditions.
