We are currently looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our Desford team in the position of Stores Operative. The role holder will be responsible for ensuring the site stores are managed effectively and spare parts & consumables are re-ordered at the correct times. This will include ordering spare parts, consumables, fuels & chemicals etc. so the role holder will also be responsible for safe storage in line with COSHH requirements.
Your duties would include but not limited to the following:
- All duties listed must be carried out safely and effectively, work and adhere to Forterra health & safety zero harm policy.
- Conduct daily and end of month check of fuel and chemical stock levels.
- Daily check of PPE and other production-based consumables.
- Manage stock levels using CMMS (computerized maintenance management system).
- Carry out period stock checks of all spares (cycle counts).
- Take any remedial action required due to stock levels in a timely manner.
- Supply goods/parts to all areas of the factory as required.
- Collect/transport goods to/from site.
- Assist engineering teams in creating kits for planned maintenance tasks.
- Liaise between management and suppliers, to meet delivery deadlines and ensure best price is achieved.
- Ensure correct PPE is always worn.
- Report all health and safety concerns to shift supervisor, BST safety leader or management, depending on severity.
- Control of stores spending against budgets.
- Assist with the planning and organising parts around maintenance shutdown periods.
About You:
- To be computer literate and proficient in using MS Outlook, MS Excel, MS Word.
- To have or to develop knowledge in a heavy-industry environment.
- To have strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- To have experience working in heavy industry and/or experience in an Engineering background.
- To be proactive and solutions-oriented, with the ability to work independently.
The job requires no formal education or qualification, the role does require a minimum of 3 months training from a competent operator ensuring close supervision during the period, and a competency check procedure carried out on all duties.
