An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Skilled Gardener to work closely with and support the Head Gardener in continuing to develop the gardens and implement the design of seven-time Chelsea Flower Show Gold Medallist, Cleve West over the next few years. The position is based near Stow-on-the-Wold and is a full time and permanent role.
The stunning property is a grade one listed medieval manor house. A moat surrounds one side of the house within a 5-acre garden, which flows into a spring fed network, leading to a gully rock garden with a series of pools surrounded by acers and conifers. Other features include a dry/gravel garden, mixed beds and borders around the house, terraced beds, a walled garden/potage under construction and a glasshouse.
The Skilled Gardener will support the Head Gardener on the day-to-day care of the gardens and landscapes at the main estate and occasionally assist on the owner’s other estate nearby, alongside two other estate workers. In addition to the developments, areas of the garden are to be maintained such as the extensive lawns, riverbeds, borders, wildflower meadows, orchard, woodland and areas on the wider estate.
This opportunity would suit a driven and motivated gardener with excellent attention to detail. Applicants should be equally passionate, energetic and hands-on professionals looking to be part of an incredible gardening project.
Suitable candidates will ideally possess a horticultural qualification equivalent to RHS 2 or have experience in horticulturally diverse gardens with good plant knowledge and physical fitness. Practical experience with a range of garden machinery is required; with spraying and chainsaw certificates desirable. Additional training can be provided.
SALARY: Up to £32,000 DOE
