Job Description Job Title: Engineering Manager (London-based Fintech Start-up) Location: London (Hybrid) About Us: We are an innovative, Series A fintech start-up revolutionising the way businesses and consumers interact with financial services. Based in the heart of London, we are leveraging cutting-edge technology to build scalable, secure, and user-friendly financial solutions. With significant backing from leading venture capital firms, we are expanding rapidly and are looking for talented individuals to join us in shaping the future of fintech. The Role: We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead and grow our talented engineering team. As a hands-off manager, you will play a key role in fostering a collaborative, efficient, and high-performance culture while ensuring our technical projects align with the company’s strategic goals. You’ll be involved in architectural decision-making, code reviews, and the hiring process while leaving the day-to-day coding to your team. Key Responsibilities: Leadership & Team Management: Guide and mentor a team of engineers, fostering a culture of learning, innovation, and collaboration. Help to identify and nurture key talent, while ensuring engineers have the resources and support to succeed. Technical Strategy: Work closely with the CTO and other stakeholders to define the long-term technical vision and roadmap. Ensure the team is aligned with the company’s strategic goals. Architectural Oversight: Collaborate with engineers and product teams on architectural decisions to ensure scalability, performance, and security across our platforms. Hands-off Approach: While you will not be responsible for day-to-day coding, you’ll stay close to the technology through code reviews, pair programming when necessary, and support engineers with technical challenges. Hiring & Team Growth: Play a key role in the recruitment process by conducting interviews, helping to scale the team, and maintaining a high bar for technical talent. Process Improvement: Continuously refine our engineering processes to improve efficiency, ensure high-quality delivery, and minimise bottlenecks. Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner closely with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of features and product iterations. What We’re Looking For: Proven experience as an Engineering Manager, ideally within a start-up or fast-paced environment. Strong background in software engineering (experience in fintech or financial services is a plus). Hands-on experience with modern development frameworks and cloud infrastructure ideally having worked with JavaScript, Typescript, React, Node.js & AWS Ability to balance hands-off management with being involved in key technical decisions. Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills. Familiarity with agile methodologies and best practices for continuous integration and delivery. A passion for building and scaling high-performing teams. What We Offer: Competitive salary (£100k-£120k and equity options) Hybrid working model 2-3 days a week in the central London office.
