As part ASPH Speech and Language Therapy team to provide high quality services to patients with a wide range of communication and / or swallowing disorders to support best outcomes

To manage and prioritize a caseload in conjunction with SLT team members

To promote the needs of people with communication and swallowing difficulties in all aspects of planning and service delivery

To communicate and collaborate with team members, other HCPs and partner organisation to support service improvements.

To evaluate outcomes at individual and service level

To provide training to members of the multi-disciplinary team as required

To contribute to the development of assistants, students and volunteers, including participation in student placements

To participate as per service requirements to a seven-day service including extended hours and weekend working, To maintain Health Profession Council Standards of Proficiency, to practise within the legal and ethical boundaries of the profession and to be aware of current legislation applicable to the work of speech and language therapists

To participate in and undertake to learn from the supervision, mentoring and supported development opportunities provided by the Trust and the speech and language therapy department

To develop competence to manage straightforward cases, with guidance and support, to meet the needs of the caseload, recognising own limits of practice and when to seek advice

To plan, prioritize and manage workload with formalised guidance and direction

Patient / Client Care

To administer, record, score and interpret a range of published and self-generated assessment tools to describe and analyse clients’ abilities and needs

To make a differential diagnosis based on evidence from assessment, seeking advice and making onward referrals as appropriate

To devise and coordinate management plans in liaison with patients, carers and multidisciplinary and multi-agency teams

To communicate complex condition related information from assessment, as well as information, advice, instruction and professional opinion effectively and appropriately to colleagues, patients / clients, parents and carers

To conduct evidence-based practice, evaluate practice systematically, & participate in audit procedures.

To change practice as needed to take account of new developments.

To adapt practice to meet the needs of different client groups distinguished by, for example, physical, psychological, environmental, cultural or socio-economic factors.

To understand the need to maintain the safety of patients, clients and users, and those involved in their care.

Knowledge understanding and skills

To know and keep up to date with national, local and client contextual knowledge and understanding as well as the relevant core and care group specific underpinning knowledge and skills related to the assessment, management and professional craft knowledge of speech and language therapy practice

To identify personal/professional development need evidenced by personal development plan/professional portfolio developed within the SLT department appraisal framework

Are you a highly motivated newly (or soon to be) qualified Speech and Language Therapist or, an experienced Band 5, with a desire to deliver the latest evidence base and advanced care within the Acute Hospital setting and community with the Early Supported discharge team.

We have an exciting opportunity to join our friendly and dynamic SLT teams. This role is a rotation based across two streams within the Acute trust and Early Supported Discharge Team.

Newly qualified Band 5 therapists will receive regular support and supervision to complete their RCSLT competencies, as well as dysphagia competencies. We will also offer commitment to your personal development through supervision and appraisal, as well as both internal and external training and encourage regular CPD opportunities. You will receive exposure to our Videofluoroscopy and FEES service and there will be an opportunity to influence the ongoing development of the SLT service provision through research, audit and service quality improvement initiatives to support excellent clinical care.

We offer a seven day service across some teams and you will be expected to participate as per service requirements.
