Protection & Control Design Engineer The successful individual will be an experienced Design Engineer with at least five years experience of protection and control design from 11kv to 132kv.Must hold a UK driving licence with the willingness to experience some short distance travel if required. Our Client Our client is committed to providing value added power engineering services to Power Networks, Embedded Generation Investors and Carbon Reducing Organisations. Through innovative design, installation, build, commissioning and maintenance they have a significant pipeline of projects including major infrastructure networks (OHL, UG cabling, sub-stations etc), microgrid solutions, gas / hydrogen-based generation and grid support through battery storage schemes. Their clients include DNOs, IDNOs, ICPs, and major public, private and commercial sector organisations. Overview Our client now wishes to appoint a Protection & Control Design Engineer to enable them to fully deliver their schemes and contracts. They seek an innovative, passionate and industry experienced professional to work on multiple projects from initial concept and feasibility through to procurement specification, construction and commissioning. We are looking for a talented professional to join the team, working on critical grid and primary substation projects. The Role To manage, and oversee, all aspects of design (from outline to detail) during the project lifecycle including, but not limited to, design, planning, approval, construction, commissioning and final handover. Responsible for 11kV-132kV design and development of protection and control applications Approve pre-manufacturing drawings and ensure compliance with specifications Sign off/authorise protection and control studies and ensure systems are secure and reliable Sign off/authorise design of block cable diagrams, set files, and key line diagrams Working closely with the Project Manager, Construction Managers (and Engineers) and Design Team to ensure that all projects achieve the programme objectives of time, cost and quality, at each key milestone stage, and meet requirements of the agreed programme. To ensure business processes and systems are aligned to obtain maximum performance, and that all projects are managed on appropriate company systems. Must establish and maintain a flexible and adaptable approach to change, being able to respond rapidly and develop creative solutions. Responsible for providing accurate information for a range of projects under your control Develop project designs within agreed dates. Manage project designs within agreed budgets and programmes. Willingness to travel and participate in site meetings when necessary Liaise, manage and approve 3rd party design resource inputs into projects The Person Possess an HNC or equivalent in a relevant or related discipline Hold a full UK driving licence and willing to travel short distances if required Expertise in protection and control design (11kV-132 kV and including plant / product specification) Awareness and understanding of procurement. Production and sign off of technical specifications for all plant and equipment used on projects Experienced with electrical engineering design and practices and have good knowledge of the electricity distribution sector in general terms Experience in the whole lifecycle of schemes from initial planning through to design, build / installation and commissioning Competency in specifying, assisting in procurement, and approving pre-manufacturing drawings Working knowledge and experience of relevant industry software along with AutoCAD A highly attractive remuneration package is on offer for the successful candidate, coupled with career progression, along with challenging variety, security and longevity of work.
