My Client a National utilities company is looking for a Transmission Engineer as a Primary Plant Engineer. This position is instrumental in maintaining and enhancing the UK’s transmission network, ensuring energy is transmitted efficiently and securely to meet national demands. You’ll play a critical role in modernizing infrastructure and supporting the transition to a more sustainable energy future. Key Responsibilities: High Voltage Plant Design & Assurance: Oversee the design, layout, and configuration of high-voltage (HV) primary plant equipment in transmission substations. Ensure designs comply IEC specifications . Project Support: Provide technical support to project teams, reviewing technical drawings and documentation. Validate supplier deliverables against specifications and requirements. Operational Collaboration: Work with colleagues to identify and apply updates to design and operational procedures. Evaluate and implement technical solutions in response to system or design challenges. Commissioning Support: Collaborate with commissioning teams to ensure seamless integration of HV plant installations. Scope of Work: Involvement in refurbishments , new installations , and new build substations across England and Wales. Contribution to projects in over 300 substations , encompassing both existing infrastructure and new developments. Essential Requirements : Electrical Engineering . Working knowledge of relevant national and international standards – International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC),British Standards (BS) and Electricity Networks Association (ENA). Design knowledge on Primary Plant such as equipment layout, earthing, maintenance access and interlocking on Transformers, Switchgear, Busbar and Post Insulators etc… Educational Background : STEM degree (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) OR demonstrable experience in a relevant engineering project environment.
