Our client is an award-winning MEP, Sustainability and Environmental Engineering and Design consultancy with teams of engineers, designers and technical specialists working across various sectors.

Position: Senior / Principal Building Physics Engineer

Location: London

Salary: £negotiable depending on experience

Working in partnership with our client, the team are looking to hire a Senior / Principal Physics Engineer to be based in the Sustainability building team in London.

The role:

With a focus on human-centred, environmentally sustainable design, our client delivered the world’s first workplace fit-out to achieve both BREEAM Outstanding and WELL Certified Gold.

You will have the opportunity to not just work on exciting projects but to also engage with the industry. Our client regularly collaborates with UKGBC, CIBSE and were one of the first to sign up to support the Building Services Engineers Declare initiative.

You’ll be part of progressive and exciting projects, able to experience innovative schemes and gain knowledge across all sectors. With a structured Career Paths Framework, you’ll have a clear understanding of the pathway for advancing your career.

You will be working on a diverse range of projects in sectors including workplace, science & research, healthcare, mission critical, culture, education, sport, and residential.

As a Building Physics Senior/Principal Consultant, you will play a crucial role in helping design energy-efficient buildings by delivering complex simulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide technical leadership in your area of expertise.
  2. Provide project leadership and support the operations of the team.
  3. Have excellent organisational skills and capable of prioritising tasks and deadlines efficiently.
  4. Good interpersonal skills and able to work independently and as part of a team.
  5. Self-motivated and able to take responsibility.
  6. Be able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  7. Undertake research and development.
  8. Involvement in design commissions and influential industry bodies.

We would like to hear from you if you have experience with:

  1. Indoor CFD modelling for thermal comfort and design optimisation of mechanical ventilation systems.
  2. Wind Microclimate modelling and external Thermal Comfort studies.
  3. Odour and chemical pollution dispersion analysis.
  4. Natural ventilation in buildings.
  5. Indoor thermal and airflow analysis.
  6. Data Centre CFD studies.
  7. Dynamic Thermal Modelling (e.g., IES, TAS, etc.).
  8. Parametric analysis (e.g., Grasshopper and Ladybug tools, etc.).
  9. 3D modelling for simulations (ideally Rhino3D or SpaceClaim).
  10. Programming and scripting.
  11. Thermal bridging calculations.
  12. Familiar with CFD packages such as ANSYS CFX, FLUENT, Star-CCM, Open Foam, Helyx, or other CFD packages including Reality DC Design Advanced software (ex 6Sigma data centre tool).
  13. Competent in the use of DTM software packages such as IESve or TAS.
  14. Some experience incorporating programming such as Visual Basic and/or Python to make work-streams more efficient.
  15. Excellent communication skills and able to convey complex building physics concepts in a simple, effective, and elegant way both graphically and orally.

Qualifications:

  1. A Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering or a Science-related field.
  2. Proven experience working within the built environment sector and looking to grow as a leader in the building performance simulation field.
  3. Already working within a sustainability or engineering consultancy, you will be looking for a new challenge within a practice at the very forefront of our field.
  4. Bring expertise (with a degree in engineering/science, and experience in the field) and a passion for creating sustainable solutions.
  5. You will relish being part of a dynamic team within a progressive and well-respected firm.
  6. We require good communication skills and an enthusiasm for working within a team environment.
  7. You will be in the process of being affiliated to a chartered institution or already affiliated.
  8. We are as serious about sustainability as we are about valuing talents.
  9. Technically skilled with software including Revit, Amtech and IES.
