Job Summary:

VVB are seeking a Senior Public Health Engineer to provide Mechanical and Public Health engineering support on the HS2 Old Oak Common project through design to completion. This will involve all stages from design, installation, testing, and commissioning. You will support the Mechanical and Public Health construction teams to ensure successful delivery from a HSE, programme, quality, and compliance perspectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead a small engineering team to deliver Mechanical or Public Health scope at HS2 Old Oak Common Station.
  2. Review designs for compliance, buildability, constructability, and adherence to HS2, NR, BS, EN, and ISO standards.
  3. Manage 3rd-party design consultants and coordinate with main contractors, designers, and stakeholders to resolve design comments.
  4. Conduct risk assessments, HazID, HazOP, and HazCON sessions to ensure safety and compliance.
  5. Provide engineered solutions to meet client expectations, project restrictions, and budget.
  6. Oversee design registers, formal communication (RFI, TQ, EWN, etc.), and CAD/BIM coordination for clash detection.
  7. Attend interdisciplinary reviews, FATs, SATs, and ensure compliance with all quality standards.
  8. Support commissioning and perform site surveys to address scope, system improvements, and design needs.
  9. Collaborate with installation teams to address design suitability and solve constructability issues.
  10. Work with commercial and planning teams to manage design changes, track costs, and maintain project timelines.
  11. Manage subcontractors, team workload, and compliance with quality systems while mentoring and training the team.

Skills and Experience:

  1. Proficient in Mechanical and Public Health installation legislation, standards, and BIM/design modelling requirements.
  2. Strong knowledge of design processes, compliance, and implications of offsite construction.
  3. Advanced MS Office skills (including Excel) and experience with MS Project or P6.
  4. Familiarity with systems such as HVAC, fire-rated ductwork, smoke clearance, and staircase pressurisation.
  5. Expertise in Public Health systems: potable water, drainage, DHW, and rainwater collection.
  6. Seven years of experience in Mechanical or Public Health Engineering within infrastructure/construction.
  7. Skilled in offsite construction, modularisation, pre-fabrication, and DfMA methodologies.

Qualifications:

  1. Degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering
  2. Engineering Council Registration as Incorporated Engineer
  3. Registered member of IMechE, IET, CIBSE or other recognised Engineering Council Institutions
  4. SMSTS, SSSTS or IOSH Managing Safety
  5. CSCS Card – AQP or PQP min
  6. Full UK drivers license
