We are seeking to hire a Senior Fine Art & Specie Underwriter to join our London team. Under clear leadership and direction, underwrites a broad range of moderate and complex risks in a book of business. Works within specific limits of authority on assignments requiring technical complexity and coordination. Utilises underwriting policies and guidelines, rating manual rules, and insurance laws and regulations while finding creative solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Comply with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements and ensure that, at a level appropriate to the position, appropriate measures are in place to ensure this compliance.
- Review applications and financial requirements for risks requiring sophisticated underwriting skills. Determine acceptability of risk in accordance with company guidelines and standards.
- Define appropriate pricing based on financial and competitive analysis in line with compliance requirements.
- Prepare quotations and answer questions from Brokers, policyholders or other external contacts and escalate issues to management, along with proposed solutions as necessary.
- Negotiate with Brokers to achieve positive and profitable outcomes.
- Notify Brokers of adverse underwriting decisions, rate appeals, underwriting requirements, status and declinations.
- Analyse quality and quantity of risks underwritten and prepare reports for management review.
- Market products and services through the brokerage community and make field visits. Develop and maintain Broker relationships.
- May provide guidance and assistance to other underwriters and to other functional areas, particularly when related to cross-sell opportunities.
- Keep current on state/territory issues and regulations, industry activity and trends and freely share information with others.
- Utilise advanced functionality in relevant CNA systems to perform day-to-day activities.
- Work with more senior underwriters or management on risks exceeding authority level or requiring special handling.
- May perform additional duties as agreed.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
- Prior experience within Fine Art & Specie in a Broking or Underwriting capacity.
- Appropriate knowledge of all regulatory and legal requirements applicable to the position.
- Strong knowledge of underwriting and insurance industry theories and practices.
- Demonstrated high level of technical expertise and product specific knowledge.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills. Ability to effectively interact with CNA's internal and external business partners at all levels.
- Capacity to work independently.
- Strong ability to identify, analyse and solve problems as well as to learn rapidly, adapt quickly to change, and manage and prioritise multiple concurrent projects.
- Skilled in exercising independent judgment and making critical business decisions effectively.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite as well as other business-related software.
