As the European Credit Research and Strategy Lead, you will lead the EMEA credit solutions and strategy, providing single name coverage of recommended securities, developing, marketing, and presenting views and ideas. This role is a hybrid role including different elements of more traditional Credit research, sales, and portfolio management; hence the ideal candidate would be versatile and willing to expand their core skill set. The candidate will communicate market strategy and investment knowledge to advisors, clients, and investment committees in portfolio reviews and investment forums. The role involves problem solving and finding solutions for private clients which often include customisation of portfolios to achieve client objectives. The candidate is expected to have experience in an institutional setting from a fixed income research and credit idea selection. This role requires strong market and product knowledge, with an understanding of trading conventions along with excellent presentation and client-facing skills.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide credit coverage over a wide spectrum of corporate and sovereign credits globally. Perform credit analysis on corporate credits globally, with a European focus. Must be well versed in at least a few industries including Financials, Telecom, and/or Oil and Gas.
- Model corporate or sovereign credit fundamentals, working with junior members of the team, analysts, and associates, to deliver investment ideas and analysis.
- Provide actionable recommendations based on quantitative, fundamental, and statistical analysis.
- Perform client portfolio reviews and provide investment recommendations on said portfolios.
- Collaborate in maintaining recommended fixed income portfolios for clients.
- Communicate and form strong relationships with internal advisors as well as clients and industry participants.
- Prepare analysis and write publications on a regular basis, with frequent public speaking.
- Attend and provide advice as a Global Fixed Income Credit Strategy Solutions Specialist in internal Macro and Strategy meetings as well as certain Risk functions.
- Work with the EMEA Head of Trading & Fixed Income Specialists and Global Head of Credit Strategy to align the strategic direction and coverage of the Fixed Income asset class, focusing on defining the European credit outlook and views across sector, single name, and duration, with an absolute return focus.
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:
- 7 years of prior relevant experience, including fixed income credit research, debt capital markets, or buy-side portfolio management.
- The role requires the ability to establish credibility internally and externally, partner with bankers, investors, and senior solutions colleagues in our Global Wealth Management group, and build rapport with clients as an investment expert of the firm.
- Demonstrable ability to confidently engage with persons at all levels of the organisation as well as with clients and build/maintain a broader industry network.
- Excellent communication skills. The candidate must be articulate verbally and in writing, with the ability to write impactful short and longer papers. The candidate must demonstrate confidence and strong ability to generate trust with clients through credible discussions and presentations on investment matters.
- Personality marked by drive and ambition with demonstrated success in dealing with a wide range of clients.
- Superior analytical skills; strong computer skills; Excel, Bloomberg, and PowerPoint knowledge, coding in Python highly desirable.
- Team player capable of working effectively with many business partners.
- Fluency in English is essential; a European language would be very useful.
- CFA and/or MBA required.
- Must have financial modeling skills, including advanced financial statement analysis and valuation analysis skills; quantitative and statistical knowledge is a plus.
- Must have fixed income experience in corporate credit, with a deep understanding of credit spreads/markets and related risk metrics.
- Must understand corporate finance analysis, capital markets transactions including M&A transactions, spin-offs, tender offers, and capital raises. A subject matter expertise in accounting is a requirement.
