Non-Executive Director

The Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC)

Voluntary roles | 3-year term | 6 days per year

Core3 are delighted to be partnering with the Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC) to find three exceptional individuals to join their Board as independent Non-Executive Directors (NEDs) in July 2025.

This is an outstanding opportunity to contribute to a mission-led organisation that plays a pivotal role in shaping the world of work and supporting the UK’s evolving employment industry.

About the REC

The REC is the professional body for the UK recruitment sector, representing over 3,000 businesses and 2,500 individual recruiters. A ‘profit with purpose’ organisation with a rich history spanning almost 100 years, the REC is a champion of ethical standards, professional development, and innovation in the labour market.

How you’ll make an impact

We are seeking three new independent Non-Executive Directors to bring fresh perspectives and essential expertise to the Board.

As a Non-Executive Director, you will:

  • Provide strategic oversight and guidance, contributing to high-level decision-making.
  • Act as a critical friend to the Executive Team, offering challenge, advice, and support.
  • Champion the REC’s values and mission, helping the organisation drive its goals forward.
  • Be an active participant in Board and Away-Day meetings, contributing to discussions with a solutions-focused and forward-thinking approach.

The role requires a commitment of approximately six days per year for Board meetings in London, plus time for preparation and ad-hoc discussions with the Executive Team. The term of office is 3 years, up to a maximum of 6 years. Travel and reasonable expenses will be covered.

Why we’re excited about you

The REC is looking for individuals with a passion for strategic thinking, governance, and driving organisational success. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in any of the following areas:

  • Finance: Robust financial oversight, with a deep understanding of P&L, cashflow, forecasting, investment appraisals, financial controls and risk management.
  • Technology/Digital: Knowledge of IT systems, CRMs, data integration, and digital transformation.
  • People/HR: Strategic HR experience, with a focus on leadership development, organisational culture, ED&I, and workforce performance.

In addition to these specific skill sets, all candidates should bring:

  • A proven ability to think strategically and contribute to ‘big picture’ horizon scanning.
  • An entrepreneurial spirit with an understanding of a fast-paced SME like the REC.
  • Excellent emotional intelligence and the ability to challenge constructively at board level.
  • A collaborative, team-oriented mindset with a commitment to the REC’s mission.
  • Experience working in complex organisations with a mature corporate structure.
  • A deep understanding of the importance of governance and risk mitigation.
  • A proven track record as a Board advisor (ie NED, Trustee).

What you’ll get in return

  • Be part of a purpose-driven organisation that shapes the future of work and represents an essential sector of the UK economy.
  • Work alongside a talented and diverse Board with expertise spanning corporate, public, and third sectors.
  • Gain valuable insights into the recruitment industry, labour markets, and global human capital trends.
  • Leverage the REC’s extensive networks and relationships with policymakers, government, and major employers.

Core3 are committed to a transparent and inclusive process and encourage applications from candidates of all backgrounds. The REC values diversity and aims to maintain a balanced and representative Board.

If you’re inspired by the REC’s mission and believe you can contribute to their continued success, we would love to hear from you.
