Product Engineering at JLR is centred on innovation and creativity. From advanced driver assistance systems to developing the future of electric propulsion, the opportunities to create exceptional experiences for the future of motoring are wide-ranging. You'll work alongside industry experts to drive product strategy, manage programs, analyse performance, and lead transformation initiatives.

The University of Warwick, in collaboration with Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and supported by UK Government grant funding, has established a state-of-the-art Research Laboratory dedicated to advancing Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) and Power Electronics technologies. This unique facility, located on the Warwick campus, is open to academic and commercial third-party projects, offering an exceptional environment for innovation, collaboration, and career development.

You’ll be joining a small, dynamic team at the forefront of propulsion research, working alongside JLR engineers, university academics, and external partners. This is a rare opportunity to be part of a facility that blends academic excellence with industrial application.

WHAT TO EXPECT

As a key member of the ICE Testing Team, you’ll support the Lead Engineer in the day-to-day operation of the engine test facilities. Your role will be central to ensuring the smooth running of the lab and delivering high-quality testing services.

You’ll be involved in:

  • Operating and maintaining advanced ICE test systems: 2 x Multi-Cylinder Dyno Systems (650kW peak), 2 x Single-Cylinder Dyno Systems (90kW peak)
  • Preparing test benches, installing and instrumenting test units, and conducting emissions testing.
  • Supporting the development of test methodologies in collaboration with customers and academic partners.

In addition to technical operations, you’ll help ensure compliance with ISO standards (e.g., ISO 16949, ISO 14001) and health & safety protocols. You’ll also contribute to team development by assisting with onboarding and training of new staff, and occasionally supporting other Lead Engineers across the lab. This is a hands-on role with real impact, offering exposure to cutting-edge propulsion research and the chance to work on high-profile projects with JLR and other industry leaders.

  • Experience in operational use of AVL SCADA, PUMA, CAMEO & ETAS INCA, as applied to a manual and automated engine test facility
  • Experience in rig/laboratory based technical test and evaluation processes in the field of ICE systems, with a comprehensive understanding of the engineering discipline.
  • Desire to further develop your own and your teams technical understanding in the field and ability to evaluate and explain test methodologies and facility capabilities
  • A good understanding of laboratory equipment capability and flexibility & experience working in technically contributing ICE engineering environment
  • Good activity execution skills, good planning and programme management skills & ability to communicate and influence at operational level
