Junior Social Video Journalist About Us Social video whizzes, we need you! Metro brings news, sport, analysis, features, opinion, and everything in between to a fast-growing global audience and we’re now looking for a talented Junior Social Video Journalist to join our London team. You’ll be responsible for pitching, producing and delivering daily and weekly short form video content with a focus on TikTok, Facebook and other key platforms. Ideal candidates will have a great understanding of current affairs and everything important to Gen Z and a wider TikTok audience. You’ll be across reactive news, UGC and explainers on a whole host of topics. Your fingers must be on the pulse of online conversation. You should be able to spot a new story or rising trend and act quickly to generate engaging video content around this. Role Responsibilities Monitor trends and relay story ideas confidently to the team Source and re-edit the best and most engaging content, making sure clips are sourced in a legal manner and credited appropriately Research and produce scripts for social video with an understanding of the key narrative of a story Create headlines, social copy and metadata for posting of videos across all platforms Use data and analytics to inform decisions on pitches and future content Understand legal covenants such as the UK Editors’ Code of Practice, media law, copyright law and editorial guidelines in the UK and globally Help to build a strong Metro.co.uk voice across our video output Key Skills and Experience Experience working within a news/media environment at a local or national level A strong news sense, with a creative approach to storytelling Experience in scripting, producing, editing and delivering video content An understanding of how analytics impacts content decisions Ability to edit using Adobe Premiere Pro or Cap Cut Understanding of the UK Editors’ Code of Practice, media and copyright law Willingness to work in a dynamic, fast-paced 24/7 news environment with flexibility to work unsociable hours as and when required The above list is not exhaustive and constantly evolving, based on the needs of the business. Out of hours availability and a high level of adaptability are essential. Your shift rotation will be Sunday to Thursday.
