Role overview
The fundamental analyst (Equities) role is to enable the team and portfolio managers to better source and implement investment opportunities. In no particular order it requires: screening for new ideas (long & short) across sectors/ geographies/ themes, assessing the validity of those potential ideas through modelling according to internal templates, meeting management and validate the investment thesis with the sell side, communicating clearly the merits of potential investment to the rest of the team and finally, for those ideas that made it into the portfolio, monitoring the news flow and question the validity of the investment thesis.
Responsibilities
The fundamental analyst must maintain a firm grasp of the Company’s current portfolio as well as develop expertise across various sectors of interest. The responsibilities include:
- Conduct in-depth financial analysis of companies by examining income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and key financial ratios.
- Build and maintain financial models to forecast company earnings, margins, and valuation under different scenarios.
- Assess industry and competitive dynamics, including supply chain analysis, market share trends, and regulatory impacts.
- Monitor macroeconomic indicators and assess their potential influence on sectors and individual companies.
- Meet with company management teams, attend investor calls, and analyse transcripts to validate or challenge investment assumptions.
- Write investment memos and research reports summarizing analysis, valuation, risks, and investment rationale.
- Track and interpret news, filings, and corporate actions that may affect current or potential investments.
- Collaborate with portfolio manager and the team to refine investment ideas and contribute to portfolio construction.
- Maintain coverage on a universe of stocks, updating views and models as new information becomes available.
Position Pre-requisites
- Hard working / Autonomous / Intellectual honest
- Strong proficiency in financial modelling and valuation techniques
- Deep understanding of accounting standards, financial statements, and key performance metrics.
- 3–5 years of experience in equity research, investment banking, asset management, or a similar analytical role.
- Demonstrated interest in world and corporate affairs
- Good communication skills to communicate ideas concisely within the team
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment; strong interpersonal skills and a proactive, team-first mindset.
