Chronos Energy is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer. Our client is a leading provider of technical and energy services, recognised for delivering innovative and sustainable solutions. They are focused on transforming the built environment by implementing practical, energy-efficient technologies and strategies that reduce energy consumption and lower carbon emissions.
The ideal candidate will have strong planning and multitasking skills, with experience managing complex carbon reduction M&E projects. They should have a solid understanding of construction processes and engineering standards, and a track record of working on multi-disciplinary projects. Experience with systems such as energy centres, heat pumps, steam, HTHW/LTHW, chillers, BMS, HV/LV, CHP, UPS, and DNO connections is essential.
The candidate will be involved in both producing designs and managing external design teams, ensuring practical and buildable solutions that minimise construction and operational risk. They must be able to respond to design changes, understand their impact across disciplines and costs, and support electrical engineers with mechanical aspects of generator and related system designs.
Project sites are located in London and will be well-suited to candidates based in the South East of England or those who are able to travel to London twice a week.
- End to end development of mechanical designs
- Review of designs and monitoring of external designers up to RIBA stage 4 to ensure the appropriate quality and detail is provided.
- Development of and/or review of project specifications, including those from other engineering and architectural disciplines.
- Undertaking concept and detailed mechanical design for projects, with support from an electrical design engineer, including managing programme, internal review, client approval and design management tools.
- Develop, test and evaluate the performance of systems.
- Design and implement systems to improve efficiency and sustainability.
- Ensure designs are buildable and that risk is eliminated/reduced at design stage.
- Liaison with clients, design team, suppliers and contractors.
- Manage projects using engineering principles and techniques.
BSc or BEng in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- ~3-5+ years commercial experience, ideally within Energy, SME Business in a live operational building.
- ~Experience of working with Major Plant: Heat Pumps, Boilers, CHPs, Chillers and with supporting systems and controls.
- ~Ability to produce engineering schematics and concept layout drawings in 2D AutoCAD.
- ~Understanding of 3D CAD modelling and generation of engineering drawings.
- ~An in depth knowledge of and ability to analyse existing and develop new HVAC systems, Steam, MTHW, LTHW, chilled water and DHWS designs and installations.
