This international banking group is recruiting for a Head of Indirect Taxes to join their existing tax team based in London. Reporting into the EMEA Tax Director and with 2 direct reports, you will have overall responsibility for the indirect taxes across the region, including responsibility for strategic advisory and project work as well as the oversight of the group’s indirect tax compliance across UK, UAE, Netherlands, Germany, France and Spain.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Review of all periodic and annual VAT reporting in the UK, UAE, Netherlands, Germany, France and Spain.
- Responsibility for VAT balance sheet substantiation for the above markets.
- Responsibility for maintaining indirect tax policies and procedures.
- Provide technical indirect tax advice to the business and corporate functions as required, including new product proposals and new business initiatives, Service Level Agreement and Cost Contribution Agreement reviews, and ad hoc queries.
- Monitor changes to VAT legislation and case law and advise on their impact for the bank’s business areas.
- Liaise with the IT department (ISD) in order to advise on VAT systems requirements.
- Manage UK and UAE VAT group membership.
- Maintain and update Partial Exemption Methods in the UK, Netherlands, Germany and France.
- Act as key point of contact for VAT matters with HMRC and other tax authorities as required.
- Manage VAT queries from tax authorities, Internal Audit and external auditors.
You will need to be an indirect tax specialist with strong technical knowledge of VAT and indirect taxes with particular emphasis on financial services (i.e., Partial Exemption methodologies). You will need to have had experience of VAT return preparation and reconciliations, together with a good understanding of Oracle. Ideally, you will already be working in a similar role in the banking or wider financial services sector, or an equivalent Big 4 FS VAT team, and be looking for an opportunity to take over lead responsibility for indirect taxes in another firm.#J-18808-Ljbffr
