One of my local government clients are currently recruiting an experienced Food Waste Recycling Officer on a temporary basis. This is a 3-month minimum contract with the possibility of the role being extended further to work Monday to Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm. Hybrid working role where, however, you will be required to attend the office 2/3 times a week.

Overview:

  • To roll out food waste recycling services across Kensington and Chelsea.
  • To carry out site visits and devise solutions for storing and collecting food waste for properties that have limited bin storage space.
  • To design and implement a programme of targeted doorstepping to educate and encourage residents to recycle food waste.
  • To monitor participation rates, fill levels and contamination rates.
  • To create behaviour change and communication campaigns to complement service improvements.
  • To create a plan for contacting all private landlords, (as well as our internal Housing team), and encourage them to agree to the introduction of food waste recycling for their tenants.

Key Duties:

  • Use boroughwide household bin storage capacity data to plan future food waste collection rounds.
  • Create and deliver a plan for contacting private landlords and encourage them to introduce food waste recycling for their tenants.
  • Persuade and encourage key stakeholders to introduce food waste recycling collections. Arrange and attend unsupervised meetings with landlords and other key stakeholders, such as waste contractor managers, housing association groups, residents, landlords and housing providers.
  • Design and deliver a targeted doorstepping programme to encourage food waste recycling uptake in estates and kerbside properties. Provide detailed information about the service, answer questions, and handle objections and complaints in a professional manner.
  • Research innovative solutions to provide households, without adequate bin storage space, (e.g. flats above shops) with an option to recycle their food waste. Present findings to management and if signed off deliver the projects from start to finish, securing funding (internally or externally) where necessary.
  • Use internal data and IT systems to respond to residents’ food waste collection requests. Assess if households are eligible and follow up accordingly.
  • Prepare caddies, leaflets, and liners and arrange for their delivery to suitable households.
