Due to our ongoing projects and significant growth, we are looking to recruit Mechanical Technicians (Fitters) for our Cranfield operation. This is a hands-on role, reporting to the Engineering Production Manager and/or Team Leader. The role is for an experienced Fitter, who can contribute to the business immediately and guide, develop, and assist less skilled personnel.
The Mechanical Technician/Fitter will be primarily responsible for the following:
- Building test rigs, using their skills to fit mechanical components.
- Reading engineering drawings to work out build schedules and identify material requirements.
- Providing machining and engineering fitting services to areas within the business.
- Improving the machining, fabrication, and fitting times within the business.
- Supplying information to Engineers for bid preparation.
- Supporting the Facilities Team in building maintenance and improvement.
- Being actively involved in continuous improvement activities.
- Assisting Project Engineers with technical issues and solving problems on test rigs.
- Assisting Apprentices in their development.
You are to be considered, we require the following qualifications, skills, and experience:
- Likely to have undergone a Time Served Apprenticeship in either Mechanical Fitting, Machining, or fabrication.
- At least 5 yearsβ experience after being an apprentice in a maintenance or technical production type role.
- Good fitting skills.
- Computer literate.
- Works well in a team and has good communication skills.
- Beneficial if the candidate has undergone further training in Safety, Forklift Truck driving, Rigging and/or Enclosed Spaces.
