In House Counsel - Corporate services, EMEA (12 month FTC Maternity cover)
Location: Bristol (Hybrid) 3 Days office
Our client is a global business with the legal team supporting all of the business units across all EMEA territories. This role provides focused corporate legal services support to the group throughout the EMEA region. Lead by the General Counsel - Corporate, EMEA, the team is responsible for a variety of areas of legal specialisms, including Employment, Data Privacy, Litigation, Real Estate, Intellectual Property, Regulatory, Corporate Governance, Treasury and M&A and is part of the global corporate legal services team.
Key Responsibilities- Managing, directing, and providing legal advice relating to Computershare’s corporate activities and governance within the team’s areas of accountability across the EMEA region.
- Delivery of pragmatic, timely, high quality legal advice to non-lawyer colleagues and other lawyers.
- Integrated working with Business Line lawyers to anticipate and respond to challenges to and opportunities for Computershare’s businesses.
- Working closely with the Group Corporate Development function, associated Business Unit representatives and designated lawyers across the Corporate Services function on M&A transactions as well as Business Line lawyers in the delivery of due diligence.
- Keeping informed of legal and market developments relevant to our businesses and evaluating their impact.
- Formulating policy to ensure consistent legal and regulatory compliance across Business Lines and legal entities.
- Adhering to the legal governance framework, policies, systems, standards, and procedures in all aspects of your work.
- Demonstrable knowledge in the team’s areas of accountability and be prepared to develop expertise in multiple legal disciplines.
- UK qualified solicitor 5+pqe (or equivalent) ideally with generalist in-house experience.
- Deep familiarity with general English legal principles and procedures.
- Familiarity with the legal principles and systems of other countries in the EMEA region and in particular the Republic of Ireland and the Channel Islands.
- Experience in drafting and negotiation.
- Excellent ability to communicate effectively across a diverse community of people and cultures, adapting style to suit audience.
- Able to drive things forward both independently and as part of a team.
- Experienced in detailed legal analysis and delivery of advice in the context of broader commercial strategy.
- Drive to develop expertise in new and wide-ranging areas of law.
- Additional European language skills beneficial.
