South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust

This is an exciting opportunity to be the Head of Chaplaincy. The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the Chaplaincy Service and will also support and supervise the chaplains employed in the South East London Suicide Bereavement Service.

Main Duties of the Job

  1. Manage the day-to-day running of the chaplaincy service.
  2. Supervise chaplains in the team and the SE London Suicide Bereavement Service.
  3. Responsible for the chaplaincy budget.

The chaplaincy service is valued by the Trust. The post holder will be expected to work across all of our services, which will involve travelling.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Education to Masters level in an area appropriate to health care chaplaincy.
  • Sufficient gravity to promote confidence in spiritual and pastoral care among other health care professions and communities.
  • Ability to publish, research, and otherwise disseminate ideas through writing, speaking and teaching.

Experience

  • Significant relevant experience of offering spiritual and pastoral care within the conventional settings of their faith community.
  • Substantial experience as a chaplain and experience of leading public worship.
  • Experience of working with issues that interface between spirituality-religion and mental and emotional wellbeing within an area of specialisation.
  • Experience in working with patient confidentiality, equality-diversity and human rights issues.
  • Experience of writing, researching, teaching and public speaking.

Knowledge and Skills

  • An ability to articulate a coherent model of spiritual and pastoral care in mental health to other healthcare professionals, health care managers and faith leaders.
  • An ability to receive, compare, and process a range of complex multifaith, multicultural, and organisational issues before advising staff, patients, or carers.
  • Well-developed interpersonal communication and relational skills.
  • Ability to manage a budget.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Salary: £54,320 to £60,981 per annum including HCAs.
