We are looking to recruit an industry-leading Production Director based in London to lead our creative solutions in digital and technology in live events and experiences with a minimum of 10 years’ agency experience with at least 2 years in a similar role.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with a talented global team on hugely creative and innovative projects. Some of our major international clients include Amazon, Google, Yahoo, T-Mobile, Pinterest, and Live Nation for whom we activate worldwide at markets such as CES, IFA, MIPCOM, and Cannes Lions.

Our focus is creativity with a practical head – we offer creative solutions for our clients that fit within budget and within brief and are always looking to push creative boundaries, try new products, processes, and materials and create industry talking points.

We are looking for a Production Director who can bring their experience and qualities to enhance our already talented team. They will need to be hands-on to lead and deliver high-profile large projects and manage a team of production managers. They will need to work efficiently across multiple projects with both clients and team members spread across multiple time zones in Europe and the USA.

Experience line managing and leading a team is essential. Your role would be to help this team grow and nurture the talent in-house.

What is the purpose of the job?

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will lead the Production team and guide them in delivering extraordinary events with production values of the highest level.

You will be responsible for the planning and delivery of innovative execution for clients’ events ensuring all ideas are fit for purpose, continue to push boundaries, and create world-class event executions.

You will be responsible for contracting and managing appropriate external suppliers.

The Role

Location: DesignScene Limited, London, UK

Employment Type: Permanent Full-time

Salary: Dependant on experience

What do you have to achieve?

  1. Co-ordinate the on-site execution of projects including set-ups and de-rigs.
  2. Conduct site surveys and obtain or commission detailed CAD drawings as required.
  3. Conduct relevant research and take part in creative brainstorms with the team.
  4. To ensure all deadlines, both internal and client-led, are met.
  5. Efficient production management from design to delivery.
  6. Ensure effective storage management.
  7. Effective and cost-efficient supplier management.
  8. To ensure that the brief has been met.
  9. Efficient working across international teams and time zones.
  10. Satisfied clients.

Job Activities – what do you have to do?

  1. Liaise with relevant stakeholders to obtain project brief and agree best way forward.
  2. Communicate regularly with internal team to ensure they are up to date and fully engaged.
  3. In situations of ambiguity manage and mitigate risk by maintaining open channels of communication, ensuring that all stakeholders voice opinions and concerns.
  4. Manage the costing, tendering and engagement process where suppliers are involved.
  5. Present budgets and proposals to internal team and agree sign off process.
  6. Produce detailed plan for the delivery of the project as appropriate.
  7. Use experience and knowledge to research and suggest solutions such as products, suppliers, technology etc.
  8. Work closely with the Managing Director to understand vision and direction of business and translate this into business goals.
  9. Manage the H&S process in terms of collating supplier information and contracting H&S specialists if needed.
  10. Have debriefs with team and client to understand issues and take forward any learning.
  11. Champion improvements in Sustainability in events.
  12. Support and mentor line reports to ensure continuous development of the individuals.
  13. Keep a cool head when changes, challenges, barriers and client feedback arises, continuing to support the team throughout.
  14. Build effective relationships with project, production and creative teams and collaborate in creative briefs and timings.
  15. Maintain suitable quality control levels within the team and wider agency.
  16. Provide strong leadership – effectively direct team members to accomplish desired goals.
  17. Contribute to building a team environment that facilitates mutual respect and partnership across functions; strategic thinking; appropriate risk-taking; open lines of communication between team members, on-going performance feedback, professional development, and adherence to agency policy.

What are the skills required?

  1. Experience leading remote teams of designers across time zones.
  2. Understanding of production technology, creative and design and ability to recognise and acknowledge suitable products and suppliers.
  3. A flexible approach with the ability to multi-task (run more than one event at once).
  4. Proven time management skills.
  5. Work under pressure and deal with ambiguity.
  6. Clear communication and excellent inter-personal skills.
  7. Excellent planning and organising skills.
  8. The ability to identify and manage risk.
  9. Quick thinking & analytical.
  10. An eye for detail.

What technical knowledge do you need?

  1. Detailed knowledge and understanding of event and installation production technology, materials, construction techniques and best practice.
  2. In-depth knowledge of digital execution, live streaming, recording and broadcasting.
  3. Knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation.
  4. Competent use of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Apple Keynote and Cloud Computing Applications.
  5. Ability to read and interpret CAD drawings. The use of VectorWorks a bonus.
  6. Competent use of Google Apps, Microsoft Office, Apple Keynote, Dropbox and Slack.

Discretionary Bonus: based on business & personal performance.

Holiday: 22 days paid holiday per year.

WFH: Monday & Friday at home, Tues, Wed, Thurs in office for full-time staff. Additional 18 bookable WFH/remote days.

Equipment: Company Mobile with US and UK number, Apple Laptop.

Medical: Vitality Health Medical Insurance.
