Founded over 200 years ago, Barnwood Trust is an independent charitable trust known as a progressive agent of social change and a passionate ally of the disability and mental health movement.
The Trust uses its substantial investment portfolio to fund and work in partnership with a wide range of charities and other organisations to create opportunity and evidence-led change for disabled people and people with mental health conditions in Gloucestershire. Outside the county we have a strong profile, for our distinctive approach to creating inclusive, place-based partnerships.
The Barnwood Trust Team comprises a high-calibre Board of Trustees, and circa 30 brilliant colleagues, many of whom bring lived experiences of disability, mental health and neurodivergence. In 2024 we awarded over £4m to charity partners, and a further £1m directly to disabled people and people with mental health conditions, for items ranging from gym memberships to laptops. We put the experiences of disabled people and people with mental health conditions at the heart of what we do; our Barnwood Circle is a network of disabled people, people with mental health conditions and unpaid carers, who inform and guide our work.
It is a time of change for the Trust as we seek to recruit a new CEO, as Dr Sally Byng is to step down in 2025 after 16 years outstanding service. We look forward to welcoming a new CEO who will oversee the co-creation and development of our strategy, extend and deepen our partnerships, and elevate our profile in the county, regionally and nationally, ensuring we are adding value to networks and systems that create positive change.
The right person for this role will be an experienced strategic leader, a passionate champion of inclusion, an effective and authentic relationship builder, and someone who will inspire and energise the team as well as the Trust’s diverse range of partners and stakeholders.
