Do you have an interest in street design, shifting the focus away from private vehicles to promote better spaces for those walking, wheeling, and cycling? We have an exciting opportunity for a senior engineer with a passion and interest in planning and designing active travel infrastructure in our Birmingham Office.
Our ideal candidate will provide design expertise and support for appraisals of a range of active travel focused schemes. They will have existing design experience in the transport / placemaking / civil engineering fields and are able to support a growing team seeking to deliver on both private and public sector opportunities.
We require the applicant to ideally be degree educated, ideally with a focus within highway and/or public realm design. We are seeking someone to provide high quality technical delivery of projects ranging from feasibility studies through to detailed design, whilst also supporting with the reviewing schemes, setting out active travel strategies, undertaking route audits, and providing support into Business Cases.
Our ideal candidate will have passion and experience of designing and reviewing schemes to LTN 1/20 and inclusive mobility guidance. Comprehensive knowledge of national design standards (DMRB, Traffic Signs Manual, LTN 1/20, Manual for Streets, Inclusive mobility).
Knowledge and practical application of adoption agreements (including, S278 and S38). Comprehensive understanding of software packages including Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, vehicle tracking, KeyLINES/SIGNS, with 3D modelling experience.
Strong communication skills, experience in establishing new client relationships to help grow the Active Travel offering. Experience of meeting attendance to discuss issues with clients, architects, contractors, local authorities and other statutory bodies. Ability to produce technical reports. Good time management and organisational skills with the ability to maintain good records. Experience managing tasks to delivering projects on time and to a budget. Ability to build a team and mentor junior members of staff.
Experience in applying Active Travel England Toolkits and an understanding of transport planning modelling would be advantageous.
