Director of Data, Evaluation and Learning

The Director of Data, Evaluation and Learning will ensure that we achieve our aim of embedding understanding and learning at the heart of everything we do, to help maximise our impact. You will ensure that rigorous evidence is both systematically used to drive impact for people living in Lambeth and Southwark, and synthesised to advance health equity in our place and beyond.

Responsibilities

  1. Deliver and adapt Impact on Urban Health’s evidence strategy.
  2. Coordinate and oversee our data function including the use of data to guide our work and the production of an annual publication providing an authoritative analysis of key qualitative and quantitative data on urban health in our boroughs of Lambeth & Southwark and beyond.
  3. Coordinate and oversee the synthesis of evidence on the impact of and lessons from projects funded by Impact on Urban Health.
  4. Coordinate and oversee the development of a repository of evidence on what works to improve urban health and the development of accessible summaries of available evidence.
  5. Establish and oversee clear processes for assessing the status of all IoUH-funded projects, capturing their learning and informing decisions on the appropriate stage and ongoing development priorities of IoUH-funded projects.
  6. Support the design of projects and programmes, ensuring that design decisions are informed by relevant data and evidence.
  7. Help develop impact goals for IoUH, coordinate and synthesise reporting against impact goals and outcome-focused KPIs.
  8. Ensure across Impact on Urban Health, teams get the support necessary to embed data, evaluation and learning in the development and execution of their strategies.

IoUH Leadership

  1. Champion inclusive leadership and be an effective member of IoUH Director’s Team.
  2. Line management responsibility for Head of Data; Head of Programme Evaluation, Head of Place-Based Evaluation and Head of Learning.
  3. Other responsibilities that can reasonably be expected to help ensure the successful delivery of your role.

Corporate responsibilities

  1. Provide targeted support to other parts of the Foundation including supporting Foundation-wide efforts to synthesise evidence and produce well-coordinated impact reports.
  2. Work with Operations to support the development and use of KPIs across the Foundation.
  3. Work with People and Culture to support the Foundation’s learning and development programme, including the induction and development programme for Impact on Urban Health.
  4. Satisfy governance and accountability requirements including business planning and management of risk.

Skills

  1. Using data and evidence to form strategic insight and solutions in complex areas.
  2. Expressing complex ideas in a concise, credible and articulate manner for a wide range of stakeholders.
  3. Acting as a data thought leader- constantly coming up with new ideas and delivering impactful presentations.
  4. Advanced degree or demonstrable equivalent, preferably in a field that required multi-disciplinary thinking and evaluation.
  5. Experience of overseeing complex large-scale programmes and handling significant (multi-million pound) budgets.
  6. Experience leading and developing teams, across departments and managing multiple project demands.
  7. A broad range of technical skills in research and evaluation methods (both qualitative and quantitative).
  8. Excellent ability to critically appraise use of and choice between different research methods and data sources.
  9. Excellent project management skills.
  10. Excellent communication skills, including ability to communicate complex information simply.
  11. Outstanding leadership and organisational skills, including the ability to lead leaders.
  12. Excellent budget and risk management skills.
  13. Excellent problem-solving ability, outcome focused and able to make tactical decisions, within their area of discretion, to ensure that the overall project aims are met in full.
  14. Thematic expertise relevant to one or more of our programmes (Children’s Health and Food, Children’s Mental Health, Health Effects of Air Pollution, Multiple Long Term Conditions).
  15. You will be personally and professionally committed to our mission and share our values of being enterprising, collaborative, delivery-minded and inclusive.
