A little more about your role…
- At WSP our Building Technologies team are providing Smart, ICT and AV systems design. We’re looking for a Principal BMS Controls engineer to join the UK Building Technology Systems team.
- Working with clients to develop and engineer industry leading HVAC control designs, responding to design for performance imperative.
- Delivering controls and building performance related advice and developing technical documentation.
- Developing design & engineering requirements of building control systems for a varied range of small to very large buildings, varying in complexity.
- Coordinating delivery of HVAC controls, such as motor control panel design & production, software configuration, graphic packages and installation and commissioning scope detail.
- Applying your controls engineering expertise to improve our mechanical and electrical building system designs.
- Engagement with wider design teams across multi-disciplinary projects to advocate for and achieve desired BMS & smart building outcomes that are outside of our direct design responsibility.
- Taking responsibility for production of detailed performance specifications for the discipline subject to review by colleagues prior to issue.
- Designing control systems to integrate with cloud analytics consider, device naming, and points naming standards, cyber-security and network connectivity implications.
- Leading systems integration design activities across building services systems.
Your Team
- We work on a variety of projects, helping clients to navigate and embrace emerging technologies. We help clients answer questions such as, “How can we use technology to make a better building?” and “How can I create great experiences for people who use this building everyday?” The team support clients strategising, designing and implementing innovative solutions to help make cities, buildings and businesses be better.
- Our UK Building Services Team is delivering projects ranging from High Rise Towers such as 22 Bishopsgate and 40 Leadenhall, to hyper scale Data Centres, to Stadia such as Fulham Football Club to transformative Healthcare projects such as the Leeds Hospital of the Future programme.
- As leaders in Building Technology consultancy, our aim is to set the standard for providing specialist ICT and Smart Consulting to clients across the built environment.
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…
- Strategic BMS Controls engineering experience; strong understanding of BMS software and best practice.
- Significant industry experience in control and automation at technician/engineer level working in a critical and secure environments.
- Detailed knowledge of major manufacturers equipment/systems i.e. Tridium Niagara, Schneider, Siemens Honeywell, Trend, Delta Controls etc.
- Design and specify implementation of these technologies, documenting formal requirements for approval and development, and roadmaps to implementation.
- Coordination of subcontractors and internal resources to develop & integrate BMS sub disciplines to deliver full BMS system solutions, including master system integrator contractors.
- Awareness of HVAC technology trends and market direction in reducing energy consumption.
- An understanding of specialist building systems including fire safety, lighting and security systems, the ICT infrastructure and cloud connectivity aspects of deploying modern smart buildings.
- Awareness of Post Occupancy Evaluation and Design for Performance initiatives such as NABERS UK.
- Awareness of relevant industry accredited certification such as WELL, LEED, BREAAM SmartScore, WiredScore, etc.
- Awareness of smart building technology trends including standardisation of Device and Point Naming such as the BDNS initiative run by the Open Data Institute.
- Experience providing guidance and developing staff to deliver across complex projects.
- Report writing and specification writing skills.
- Ability to create and interpret technical documents including reports, diagrams, drawings and specifications.
- CIBSE / Engineering Council accredited or specific experience that will lead to Chartership.
- Problem solving and analytical skills.
- Project management experience.
- Ownership over work and delivering work for clients.
