Role description:

As part of a growing and agile business, our Environmental Planning team is looking for an Associate Technical Director/Technical Director Environmental Planner with a strong track record of leading the environmental and consenting aspects of projects, with particular experience in winning and delivering work in the Government Sector.

Role accountabilities:

You will be working on a diverse range of projects including large scale energy and infrastructure, rail, highways, water and mixed-use development schemes for both private and public clients, public realm and masterplanning projects as well as more small scale projects that require a nimble and agile approach. We drive technical excellence in everything we do and promote a flexible and collaborative environment supported by digital innovation. You will play a key role in the successful delivery of multidisciplinary projects across the UK / worldwide.

A confident and unflappable approach is required, and you will work collaboratively with a range of technical specialists on a broad range of projects, working closely with clients, developing new areas of business and mentoring others in the team.

You will also be responsible for the following:

  • Leading on the coordination and delivery of planning / environmental work being undertaken by multi-disciplinary teams, influencing project development and delivering optimal environmental and planning outcomes – with a strong understanding of Government Sector.
  • Strong business development, create project opportunities and lead delivery of projects to build our portfolio in the Government Sector.
  • Ensure strong technical delivery and quality across the delivery team, adhering to industry standards, Arcadis commitments and client expectations.
  • Raise awareness of our services, winning new opportunities and building new contacts.
  • Actively engage in key client relationships, lead by example creating cross selling opportunities for the wider business.
  • Managing projects, overseeing our performance on technical, quality, commercial, and health and safety.
  • Work closely with existing and established Arcadis colleagues across our Global Business Arcadis.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Excellent working knowledge of UK Planning system, the environmental and consenting process, from EIA practices and procedures, including case law, and a solid understanding of environmental and sustainability principles and environmental technical specialisms.
  • Experience across a range of project types.
  • Strong report writing, verbal and presentation skills with experience in reviewing the work of others to ensure quality.
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary co-ordination and leadership of projects, with good project management and technical skills.
  • Experience in consulting and negotiating with planning authorities, regulators and stakeholders.
  • Commercial expertise, including forecasting, project management and quality assurance.
  • Relevant degree or equivalent qualification, preferably with chartered status or working towards.
  • A flexible, pragmatic, and collaborative approach to work.
