Radionuclide Radiologist / Nuclear Medicine Consultant

The advertised post is for a full-time Nuclear Medicine & PET-CT trained radiologist/consultant physician with an interest in PET-CT, nuclear medicine, and radionuclide therapies at Barts Health NHS Trust. This is a new post to our high-quality PET-CT service to meet the future needs across North Central and East London.

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our dynamic team of Radionuclide Radiologists, Nuclear Medicine Physicians, and dual qualified clinicians. The post holder will practice in PET-CT, general nuclear medicine, and therapies depending on their training specialties and interests. The post will be based at Barts Health NHS Trust across our networked service.

Barts Health NHS Trust is home to the London Air Ambulance and a level 1 Trauma Centre, the regional Oncology centre, as well as the Barts Heart Centre. This post is advertised to attract an individual with the capability to provide and develop the PET services and nuclear medicine across Barts Health.

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate excellent experience in PET CT reporting as well as general nuclear medicine and support the specialist MDTs. General, acute, and trauma radiology can be accommodated depending on specialist interest and capacity.

Main duties of the job

Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care.

Leadership, development, and organisation of the services in his/her charge in line with the Trust’s business plans. Liaison and communication with the Clinical Lead, Head of Department, and CSD Directors.

Development of their own interests and specialties within the Imaging service, including active participation in audit programs.

Corporate and individual responsibility for the professional management of doctors in training.

To support, develop and enhance the PET CT and general nuclear medicine service at Barts Health NHS Trust and to actively help in the promotion of this service inside and outside North East London, maintaining and increasing referral workflows.

To contribute to the high quality Consultant-led Nuclear Medicine service at Barts Health NHS Trust.

To contribute to the high profile R&D, trials and therapies in Nuclear Medicine & PET CT.

To provide evidence-based care for all patients.

To always adhere to the appropriate clinical and quality standards at all times.

To liaise effectively and on a timely basis with colleagues, General Practitioners, community services, and all healthcare agencies.

To maintain and promote team and multi-disciplinary work.

To participate fully in the management of the Departments and to liaise closely with the respective clinical lead, clinical and academic group directors, and Head of Department.

Person Specification
Higher Qualifications:
Essential

• FRCR or MRCP CCST in Radiology or Nuclear Medicine or CESR-CP in Radiology or Nuclear Medicine (or within 6 months of date of interview) or Radiology training with a year in Nuclear Medicine.

Desirable

• MSc/Post Graduate Diploma in Nuclear medicine.

Clinical expertise in Speciality /Sub speciality:
Essential

• Experience in general nuclear medicine as defined by the radionuclide radiology section of the Clinical Radiology curriculum or the Nuclear Medicine curriculum.
• PET CT imaging.

Desirable

• Experience in general and oncological radiology, Fellowship in PET-CT.
• Experience in Nuclear Medicine therapies.

Clinical Governance
Essential

• Knowledge of NHS complaints system Record of incident and near miss reporting.

Desirable

• Training in root cause analysis Participation in incident investigation Simulated patient safety training.

Management/Audit Experience
Essential

• Management courses.
• Audit experience.

Involvement in specialty clinical audit programme
Essential

• Management and audit experience including expert knowledge of service improvement methodology (incl. clinical audit cycle) as well as data analysis, report writing and excellent communication skills.
