With a turnover of approximately £7 million, they are a trusted partner to both public and private sector clients, delivering a wide range of tarmac, asphalt, and bespoke surfacing projects. Known for their reliability, safety-first approach and exceptional service standards, they are well-positioned for future growth and strategic expansion.

Our client is seeking a commercially focused and operationally strong Managing Director to lead the business through its next phase of development. This is a pivotal opportunity to join an ambitious, growth-oriented company where you can make a real impact. It may particularly appeal to a Commercial Director seeking their first MD role, bringing strategic vision and leadership to a business with strong foundations and a solid reputation in its field.

Responsibilities will include:

• Leading the strategic direction and growth of the business, aligning with commercial objectives
• Managing and mentoring senior operational teams to deliver consistent performance
• Full P&L responsibility and oversight of financial performance across the business
• Driving new business opportunities and strengthening relationships with key clients and local authorities
• Ensuring delivery of surfacing projects to high standards of safety, quality, and efficiency
• Championing continuous improvement across operations, compliance, and service delivery
• Representing the company in key stakeholder discussions, contract negotiations, and industry events
• Reporting directly to the board, contributing to overall corporate strategy and investment planning

What you will need to succeed:

• Senior leadership experience in construction, civil engineering, highways, or surfacing
• Strong track record of delivering business growth and operational excellence
• Experience managing business units or companies with £5M+ turnover
• Financial acumen and ability to manage budgets, cashflow, and commercial performance
• Skilled at building and leading high-performing teams
• A collaborative leadership style and a hands-on approach when needed
• Excellent understanding of HSE, compliance, and contract delivery
• Strategic mindset with the credibility to lead client-facing engagements
• Degree-qualified or relevant professional background preferred
