Job Description

Wigtown Nursery is seeking an Early Years Support Assistant. The role involves working 22.5 hours per week for 39 weeks per year. The work pattern will be discussed at interview. This is a fixed-term position for 1 year and may be suitable for secondment. Applicants must seek agreement from their line manager before applying.

About Wigtown Nursery

Wigtown Nursery caters to children aged 2/3-5 years. We aim to provide an enriching, nurturing environment both indoors and outdoors to promote children\’s independence and curiosity.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Educated to SCQF level 6 in Social Services, Children & Young People or equivalent.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to meet the educational and social needs of nursery pupils.
  • Active participation in curriculum development following school policies on learning and assessment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, external agencies, and parents.
  • Must hold a relevant qualification enabling registration with The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) as a Support Worker in Day Care Children’s Services. For a list of acceptable qualifications, visit SSSC qualifications list.
  • Successful applicants must register with the SSSC within 3 months of appointment.

Additional Information

Working hours may vary between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm, depending on service needs.

This position is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults under the PVG Scheme. Candidates will be required to join or update their PVG scheme prior to employment.

Applicants with residence outside the UK within the last 5 years must provide police record checks from the relevant authorities.
