Overview
SEMH Teaching Assistant – Primary (KS2). Prospero Teaching is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Fawley, Hampshire, supporting children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This full-time role is ideal for someone with experience supporting children in educational or care settings, or with transferable skills such as youth work, coaching, or mentoring.

- Location: Fawley, Hampshire
- Position: SEMH Teaching Assistant – Primary
- Type of work: 1:1 and small group support in classroom and intervention settings
- Start date: ASAP
- Duration: Temp to Perm (long-term opportunity)
- Contract type: Full-time, Term time only
- Daily rate: £104.70 per day
- Working hours: 8:30am – 4:30pm, Monday to Friday
Responsibilities
- Supporting children with SEMH needs on a 1:1 or small group basis
- Implementing behaviour management strategies and personalised learning plans
- Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils
- Supporting class teachers in delivering engaging, accessible lessons
- Contributing to a safe, nurturing learning environment
- Liaising with external agencies and school staff to monitor progress
- Promoting pupil independence, self-regulation, and emotional wellbeing
Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEN or challenging behaviour
- Strong communication and de-escalation skills
- Patience, empathy, and resilience
- Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) – preferred
- Team Teach or similar positive handling training – desirable
- English and Maths GCSE (Grade C/4 or above)
- Ability to use basic IT systems (email, MS Office, etc.)

- Enhanced child DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one)
- Two professional references covering the last two years
- Completion of safeguarding and vetting checks
