We are looking for an experienced and highly organised Yard Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of the yard at our clients’ busy builders merchant branch. You will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and customer-focused handling of building materials and goods in and out of the yard. This role involves leading a team of yard operatives, maintaining stock accuracy, ensuring health and safety compliance and delivering excellent service to our trade and retail customers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the yard team to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
- Oversee the receipt, storage and dispatch of building materials.
- Maintain accurate stock records and carry out regular stock checks.
- Ensure all health and safety regulations are followed at all times.
- Maintain a clean, safe and organised yard environment.
- Operate forklifts.
- Provide outstanding customer service by assisting customers in the yard and loading materials safely.
- Coordinate deliveries and collections with the transport team.
- Monitor staff performance and provide coaching and training where needed.
- Liaise with suppliers and internal departments to resolve delivery or stock issues.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in a similar role, ideally in a builders merchant environment.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage a team effectively.
- Excellent organisational and communication abilities.
- Knowledge of building materials and industry products is highly desirable.
- Valid forklift license.
- Strong focus on health and safety compliance.
