As the expert software engineer, you will guide the technical strategy and development of high-impact, scalable AI solutions, mentoring software engineering teams through the full software lifecycle - from architecture to deployment. We are looking for a technical expert with a proven track record to mentor engineers, handle project timelines, and deliver high-quality code that aligns with business goals. You combine strategic thinking, strong problem-solving skills, and a collaborative approach to ensure team success and optimal software performance.
What you'll be doing:
- Demonstrates significant knowledge of Python and related technologies and advises on design, development and implementation.
- Leads by example, promoting an open and inclusive culture, holding responsibility for motivation, retention and performance management.
- Leads the delivery of critical projects, coaching team members to be productive with little direction; delegating and reviewing work when required.
- Leads timely design work and planning for epics breaking them down to stories with product owners and other leads.
- Build and maintain microservices that are scalable and reliable.
- Collaborate with a broad range of partners to establish and achieve set out objectives.
- Coach and guide the team's developers on practices for maintainable code with sufficient coverage of automated testing.
- Own solution documentation and alignment to standards, policies & strategy across emerging technology, analytics technology, as well as wider Group technology.
What you'll bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 10+ years shipping software, preferably over the full product development lifecycle.
- 6+ years leading or mentoring software engineering teams.
- Extensive experience in software engineering with a focus on designing and implementing high-performant, scalable systems.
- Proficiency in Object-Oriented programming using Python or Java.
- Expertise in cloud technologies (emphasis on Azure and/or AWS) and deployment practices, ensuring seamless and scalable delivery.
- Effective leadership and collaboration skills, with experience leading engineering teams and communicating technical requirements to both technical and non-technical team members.
- Working knowledge of DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and monitoring, to streamline development workflows and improve deployment reliability.
- Experience with Kubernetes and Jupyter internals is strongly desired.
