From Formula 1 to golf, sailing and beyond, we fuse creative thinking with commercial rigour and unrivalled industry access. We are entering an exciting phase of growth and transformation and are now creating our first-ever in-house legal function.
The Opportunity
We’re looking for a sharp, proactive, and commercially minded In-House Legal Counsel to join our team and build our legal capabilities from the ground up. This is a rare opportunity to shape and lead the legal function within a dynamic, fast-paced agency operating across global partnerships, intellectual property, commercial rights, and more. As our first legal hire, you’ll be the key advisor on legal matters—supporting teams, managing risk, and enabling confident decision-making. You’ll work closely with our leadership, client services, and external partners to deliver practical, business-focused legal advice that supports continued growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Legal Leadership: Establish and lead the legal function, advising the senior leadership team on legal and regulatory matters.
- Contracts & Agreements: Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including sponsorship agreements, service-level agreements, supplier contracts, NDAs, talent agreements, and licensing deals.
- Risk & Compliance: Proactively identify and manage legal risks, ensuring compliance with applicable laws across multiple jurisdictions (e.g. IP, advertising, data privacy).
- Policy & Governance: Develop and maintain internal compliance policies, codes of conduct, and training materials.
- Regulatory Oversight: Monitor relevant regulatory developments (e.g. GDPR, ASA guidelines, employment law) and ensure appropriate internal responses.
- Corporate Support: Advise on corporate governance, shareholder matters, and board documentation.
- IP & Brand Protection: Manage and safeguard the company’s IP and support clients in protecting theirs.
- External Counsel Management: Engage and oversee external legal advisors as required, ensuring cost-effective support.
- Internal Enablement: Act as a trusted partner and educator across the business—simplifying legal concepts and enabling teams to operate with confidence.
What We’re Looking For
- Qualified solicitor in England & Wales with 5+ years PQE.
- Blend of private practice and in-house experience preferred.
- Background in sports, media, sponsorship, or marketing law is a strong plus.
- Strong commercial acumen and a pragmatic, solution-oriented mindset.
- Confident operating independently and setting up legal processes from scratch.
- Excellent communicator—able to translate complex legal matters into clear, actionable guidance.
- Energetic self-starter who thrives in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment.
Why This Role is Exciting
- Greenfield Role: Create and shape a new legal function in a scaling business.
- Strategic Influence: Work directly with senior leadership on high-impact decisions.
- Broad Exposure: Advise on a diverse set of legal areas—commercial, corporate, IP, media, employment and more.
- Industry Reach: Be at the centre of global sport and entertainment—working on partnerships across some of the world’s most iconic events.
- Culture of Integrity: Play a key role in embedding a strong compliance and risk culture across the agency.
