2nd Line IT Engineer – Education Sector | Google Cloud & Jamf Focus
Location: Essex | Hybrid / On-Site
Salary: £35,000 – £38,000 per annum
Are you a proactive and experienced 2nd Line IT Engineer looking to step up in a fast-paced, purpose-driven environment? We’re seeking a hands-on IT professional with a strong background in end-user support, device management, and cloud infrastructure—particularly Google Workspace and Jamf Pro —to play a vital role in the day-to-day support and development of IT services across a growing educational organisation.
You’ll work as part of a dedicated IT team, helping to support users across multiple sites, while contributing to continuous improvement, digital safeguarding, and strategic IT projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 2nd line support for users across hardware, software, and network issues
- Take ownership of escalated tickets and complex support cases, ensuring timely resolution
- Manage and maintain systems including Google Workspace , Jamf Pro , Microsoft Intune , and Azure AD
- Support and configure mobile device management (MDM) solutions for MacOS/iOS and Windows devices
- Assist in delivering IT projects and digital transformation initiatives
- Monitor and maintain security protocols, safeguarding user data and ensuring compliance
- Work closely with teaching, support, and leadership staff to ensure IT meets user needs
- Liaise with 3rd party vendors and escalate issues where appropriate
- Document processes and contribute to knowledge-sharing within the IT team
Requirements:
- Proven experience in a 2nd line IT support or infrastructure role
- Hands-on experience with Google Workspace (admin side) and Jamf Pro
- Good knowledge of Intune , Azure AD , and endpoint security
- Strong troubleshooting and technical support skills across macOS, Windows, and ChromeOS
- Familiarity with network management, including switching, Wi-Fi, and basic firewall principles
- Excellent communication and user-facing skills
- Experience supporting users in educational or multi-site environments
- Ability to work independently, manage workload, and prioritise effectively
- Understanding of safeguarding and data protection responsibilities
Desirable:
- Experience working with Arbor MIS or other school systems
- IT certifications (e.g. CompTIA, Google Certified, Microsoft)
- Familiarity with project/change management methodologies
- Previous work in a special educational needs (SEN) environment
- Experience assisting with procurement, asset management, or vendor relationships
- UK driving licence and willingness to travel locally or support out-of-hours on occasion
