We are looking for a dependable, hard-working Driver / General Operative to join our waste management team. This is more than just a driving job - you'll play a key role in keeping Newport clean, safe, and pleasant for residents and visitors.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Performing daily street cleansing duties, such as litter picking, sweeping, and waste removal
- Driving and safely operating council vehicles as required
- Following health and safety procedures at all times, including wearing provided PPE (protective clothing and equipment)
- Working outdoors in all types of weather
- Helping to maintain public spaces to a high standard of cleanliness and presentation
What We're Looking For:
- A full and current UK driving licence (this is essential)
- A strong team player who's also confident working independently
- Good timekeeping and the ability to follow schedules and routes
- Friendly and professional when engaging with the public
- Physically fit and able to carry out manual work such as lifting, bending, and walking long distances
- Previous experience in cleansing, waste, or refuse services is desirable but not essential
