The role: This person will undertake regular BAU tasks including compliance and internal reporting obligations, preparation and submission of annual tax returns as well as project tasks supporting the Group Tax Director and Head of Corporate Taxes with the application of policies and procedures relating to SJP group's tax affairs. This role requires a qualified accountant with previous UK Corporation Tax experience and a willingness to learn the nuances of UK life tax.
What youβll be doing:
- Ownership of the day-to-day corporation tax compliance for the SJP group of companies including preparation of corporation tax compliance returns for review, submission to HMRC, calculation of quarterly instalment payments and management of group tax claims, elections and other corporation tax administration matters.
- Assist with life tax matters, including validation of the calculations performed by the outsource providers through to ultimate reporting of the fund tax liability at company level. Liaison with outsource providers as required and preparation of monthly and quarterly fund tax payments.
- Preparation of monthly and quarterly corporation tax provisions for larger companies and group reconciliations, group tax account and deferred tax. Sign off tax provisions prepared by management accounts team for minor companies. Play a key part in the half year and year-end tax compliance process. Provide explanations to finance team members as required.
- Where required, assist with preparation/submission of international group matters including CbCR, Pillar Two, Transfer Pricing Documentation and preparation of the annual CFC schedule.
- Obtain good working knowledge of tax software used within the tax department and the general ledger system. Be the systems expert and first point of call for tax colleagues on system related queries. Maintain appropriate controls for accuracy of corporation tax numbers and review/sign off, as well as detailed procedure notes for corporation tax related matters.
- Provide support to Group Tax Director and Head of Corporate Taxes on projects and activities, as required, and work alongside other members of the corporate tax team applying technical knowledge as appropriate.
- Keep up to date with legislative changes to corporation tax announced by the OECD/tax authorities in the jurisdictions relevant to SJP and consider the impact to the Group. Assist in the delivery and implementation of any such changes.
- Key contact for stakeholders both across the business and with outsource providers in respect of Corporation Tax. Act as key point of contact with HMRC for any queries/enquiries.
Who weβre looking for: The ideal candidate will be a qualified accountant and/or Chartered Tax Adviser with a strong background in UK Corporation Tax (could be moving from practice or working as a Tax Accountant in industry). Strong systems capabilities, the willingness to learn about the life tax regime and the ability to keep up to date with changing tax legislation is essential. This person will need to be able to work independently and build good working relationships with tax colleagues and other departments. A keen interest in tax technology is desirable.
Essential Criteria:
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or similar) and/or Chartered Tax Adviser. CTA qualification desirable.
- Strong background in UK Corporation Tax essential.
- Good understanding of SJP Group structure globally.
- Proven ability to meet important deadlines and manage priorities.
Special Requirements: Willing to travel occasionally to UK locations for meetings with other SJP colleagues, external administrators or Partner business teams.
