A defense and security corporation are recruiting a Network Engineer on a permanent basis. They are a world-leader in the integration of cutting-edge defence and security systems, delivering decisive advantage to military, government and civil customers worldwide.
What you will be doing:
- Responsible for the Analysis, Design and Build of Local Networks β LAN (including Cisco switch technology), Wide Area Networks, Security appliances, Wireless networking, telephony, firewalls and routers, including the planning of the implementation of these devices within an IT project framework.
- Support and Maintain of the devices and software including monitoring, patching and maintenance to ensure continual security accreditation and compliance of the network estate.
Responsibilities:
- Undertakes changes to the network, working under a strict change control process.
- Collaborates with the Network Architects on network optimization and efficiency.
- Coordinates and plays an advisory role in IT network development or implementation projects.
- Configuration of routing, switching and security devices in line with GDUK network policies, procedures and designs.
- Resolve complex problems and develop complex network solutions.
- Generates and presents ideas for improvements to management teams and other team members.
- Analyse, detect, identify and correct network fault investigations and deficiencies in the network (wide and local environments) working to pre-defined SLAβs.
- Provide remote trouble shooting, fault finding and support to all sites in GDUK as required.
- Determines installation parameters for software and hardware, for smooth integration, transition and efficiency of the network.
- Service request completion, including updating and communicating customers.
- Undertake Patching, hot fixes and Maintenance of the network to ensure Security accreditation and compliance.
- Ensure hardware and software inventories are current and correct in the inventory application.
- Process and procedure creation and documentation.
- Monitor and collect data on system performance, including capacity management, making recommendations for investment when the network capacity thresholds are breached.
- Contribute to the design, implementation of new technologies.
- Ability to research errors using online resources.
- Self-maintain technical skill sets.
- Contribute to the design, implementation and maintenance of the disaster recovery plan for IT related applications and systems.
- Seeks to identify areas of improvements to the network to meet evolving users and customer requirements, challenges.
- Available for afterhours support (with prior agreement in line with support rota and arrangements) to ensure availability, integrity and introduction of new and existing services.
Experience:
- Technical knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
