As an integral part of our senior management team, the In-House Counsel is tasked with providing expert legal guidance and support to ensure our operations align with all applicable laws and regulations. This position requires a robust understanding of commercial law, regulatory compliance, contract negotiation, property law, litigation, basic employment legislation, and risk management. Our ideal candidate must be a proactive problem solver and strategic thinker with exceptional communication skills and a strong ethical foundation.

In this dynamic role, you will work closely with various departments, external customers, finance, human resources, and the board, providing pragmatic and commercial advice that drives informed business decisions and safeguards our organisational interests. We are looking for a confident lawyer who can work independently and advise on a variety of matters when needed. Someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is adept at handling complex legal issues with a high degree of professionalism.

Essential Skills
  • Providing legal advice and guidance to the board and other company departments.
  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts and other legal documents.
  • Ensuring compliance with legal regulations.
  • Managing litigation and coordinating with external legal counsel as needed and representing the company on debt collection and other legal matters.
  • Conducting legal research and staying updated on changes in laws that may affect the company.
  • Overseeing corporate governance and ensuring adherence to corporate policies.
  • Advising on mergers, acquisitions, and other corporate transactions.
  • Working with Compliance Manager to ensure full compliance with GDPR regulations.
  • Developing and implementing legal strategies to protect the company's interests.
Desirable Skills
  • Drafting, negotiating, and advising on commercial leases and related documentation.
  • Employment law experience.
Experience
  • 5 years post qualification experience in the UK ideally in an in-house commercial counsel or similar business-based legal role.
  • Strong background in commercial law, contract law, and compliance.
  • Proficiency in managing complex legal projects and transactions.
  • Exceptional negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in a specific industry relevant to the company's operations.
  • Ability to analyse complex legal issues and provide sound legal advice.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools and software.
