Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Control Panel Wireman to join our clients electrical assembly team. The successful candidate will be responsible for wiring, assembling, and testing control panels based on electrical schematics, layout drawings, and technical documentation. This role requires a strong understanding of industrial control systems, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret and work from electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layout drawings, and bills of materials.
- Assemble and wire control panels to meet customer specifications and industry standards.
- Mount and wire components such as relays, PLCs, HMIs, power supplies, circuit breakers, terminal blocks, and cable ducts.
- Use appropriate hand tools and electrical testing equipment to perform wiring, crimping, stripping, and terminating.
- Perform point-to-point wiring, cable routing, and cable labelling.
- Conduct continuity and insulation tests; identify and resolve wiring or component issues.
- Maintain high standards of workmanship and ensure compliance with relevant safety and quality procedures.
- Work collaboratively with engineers and other team members to ensure deadlines and project requirements are met.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Complete job documentation and reports as required.
Requirements:
Essential:
- Proven experience as a control panel wireman or similar role in an industrial environment.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
- Competence in using hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Familiarity with control systems, motor control circuits, PLC wiring, and low voltage electrical components.
- Strong attention to detail and quality control mindset.
- Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
Desirable:
- Recognized electrical qualifications (e.g., NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds 2365/2330 or equivalent).
- Knowledge of electrical regulations and standards (e.g., BS 7671, IEC standards).
- Experience with panel testing and fault-finding.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement processes.
Working Conditions:
- Workshop-based with occasional site work if required.
- Use of PPE as per company policy.
