Main Purpose of Job
Reporting to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, the Shift Engineer is responsible for assisting in the effective management of the Company’s engineering, maintenance and continuous improvement systems. The jobholder will ensure that engineering, maintenance & continuous improvement activities are carried out according to the relevant Business Management System Procedures; and that these activities meet agreed targets and budgets.

Key Responsibilities

  • To assist with the organisation and completion of all internal and external maintenance activities; and assist with the development of the yearly plan for all maintenance and improvement activities.
  • To carry out preventive maintenance activities, in accordance with the Preventive Maintenance schedule; and to ensure adequate resources for effective planned maintenance are available.
  • To maximise plant reliability and efficiency, and to achieve continuous improvement, through the implementation of appropriate lean manufacturing techniques.
  • To assist with the gathering, recording, and evaluation of statistical process data; and to produce reports on machine efficiency.
  • To ensure that contractors comply with Company health, safety and environmental policies and procedures through the permit to work system, and in line with relevant legislative requirements.
  • To ensure the continued implementation of the department's Business Management System Procedures.
  • To assist with the identification and management of all process and engineering improvement projects to increase supply chain efficiency and productivity.

Core Competencies

  • Positive can-do attitude, with a strong work ethic.
  • Apprentice trained in either, or both, Mechanical and Electrical Maintenance Engineering.
  • Analytical and diagnostic skills in line with engineering training to assist with fault finding to effect safe, quick fixes to reactive breakdowns.
  • A good standard of computer literacy (Word, Excel) to aid report writing and documentation of works carried out.
  • Knowledge of materials processing techniques would be an advantage.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail to facilitate a visit once fix.
  • Familiar with lean manufacturing techniques (SMED, 5S, RCA), would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of specifications, tolerances and procedures in relation to engineering components.
  • Team ability working is a prerequisite!
