Absolute Recruit is proud to partner with a respected charity in search of a commercially minded Financial Controller to lead their finance function. This is a high-impact, hands-on role supporting the Chief Operating Officer and wider leadership team, combining operational oversight with strategic insight. Working flexibility of 4 days per week.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day finance operations, managing and developing a small transactional team.
- Deliver timely and accurate monthly management accounts, KPI dashboards, and financial reports (P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow).
- Provide variance analysis and strategic recommendations to enhance financial performance.
- Drive efficiency by identifying opportunities for revenue growth and cost savings.
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes with robust financial planning.
- Prepare quarterly Board Packs and deliver clear financial insights to the Board.
- Oversee VAT compliance, including return submissions and partial exemption calculations.
- Ensure rigorous financial controls and continuously improve processes and systems.
- Manage the year-end audit process and statutory accounts preparation.
- Lead ad hoc finance projects aimed at process improvement and system enhancement.
About You
You will be a proactive and collaborative finance professional who thrives in both strategic and operational domains. Ideally, you will have:
- A recognised accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA), or be part-qualified with substantial relevant experience.
- Strong understanding of financial control frameworks and audit processes.
- Proven expertise in VAT.
- Experience preparing Board-level reporting and supporting leadership decision-making.
- Strong analytical and data interpretation skills.
- High proficiency in Excel and familiarity with finance systems.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- A hands-on attitude with a commitment to continuous improvement.
