A reputable U.S law firm are seeking a proactive and commercially minded Compliance Manager to join their London office. This key hire will work closely with global legal and operational leadership, overseeing the implementation and maintenance of compliance strategies across a broad spectrum of regulatory areas. The is a very broad role and is instrumental in ensuring the London office, and international operations, continue to uphold the highest ethical, legal, and regulatory standards. Key responsibilities: Lead the review and clearance of new client engagements, ensuring alignment with AML, sanctions, and reputational risk standards Provide specialist advice on legal and compliance risks related to client onboarding, matter inception, and wider business practices Oversee the creation, maintenance, and training on policies tied to anti-money laundering, anti-corruption, fraud prevention, and economic sanctions Guide the firm through complex regulatory frameworks, including SRA obligations, managing certifications, audits, and regulatory submissions Conduct conflict checks and work with internal teams to resolve ethical and business conflicts across jurisdictions Support firmwide responses to changes in data protection laws, lead investigations into potential breaches, and manage data access requests Liaise with HR and business development to review client RFPs, employment contracts, and contribute to firmwide compliance assurance Key skills/experience required: Minimum of 5 years\’ experience in a risk or compliance-focused role within legal services either as a qualified lawyer or non-qualified Expertise in AML/KYC protocols, economic sanctions frameworks, and conflict management processes Strong familiarity with SRA rules, GDPR, and UK employment law from a compliance perspective Confident user of compliance software systems (experience with Intapp is a plus), and highly proficient in Microsoft Office Excellent communicator with the ability to convey complex regulatory requirements to non-specialists with clarity and precision Self-directed and organised, with a calm, confident presence under pressure and an adaptable mindset in a fast-paced setting This is a unique opportunity to join one of the most respected U.S. law firms, right in the heart of London, and play a key strategic role in global compliance operations while working alongside talented professionals in an inclusive and collaborative environment.
