Freedom Electrical Design Services is currently recruiting a Substation Design Engineer to join our team. The Substation Design Engineer will be responsible for delivering designs for EHV, HV, and LV electrical substation projects both in the UK and internationally, ensuring safety, quality, and environmental standards are met.

The role requires travel to other Freedom offices and client site locations across the UK, with overnight stays where necessary.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering substation primary plant and cable design projects with quality, timeliness, and profitability.
  • Seeking innovative solutions to technical challenges.
  • Providing advice and design work for primary plant, including transformers, GIS and AIS switchgear, cables, and all substation equipment up to 11kV and 400kV.
  • Applying analytical and numeracy skills for short-circuit forces, cable ratings, short-circuit currents, and lightning protection calculations.
  • Understanding the interface requirements of civil/structural and OHL aspects of HV substations.

Candidate requirements:

  • HND (or equivalent) in Engineering or Degree (preferred).
  • Knowledge of CAD and substation design.
  • Full UK driving license.
