ABPM is retained by a successful quoted retail and business services group to recruit a Head of Internal Audit; the role is based in the East Midlands with occasional travel and, as a newly created post, is a key appointment for the group’s overall risk and control framework during their ongoing growth and evolution.

Reporting to the Audit committee the key deliverables of the role include:-

  • Establish and lead the Internal Audit function.

  • Deliver the internal audit plan across the business.

  • Manage the internal audit process including core reviews for strategies and impacts.

  • Agree scope of work for audits with management that address key risks and controls to be reviewed.

  • Ensure audits are conducted on time and in accordance with the audit plan.

  • Identifying issues and risks, providing recommendations for improvements as well as ensuring action plans are implemented and monitored whilst avoiding disruption.

  • Identify and agree with the senior leadership team the key and major control initiatives and projects to be achieved on an annual basis.

You will be a qualified Accountant / Internal Auditor (ACA, ACCA, IIA) who is a Senior Manager or Director in an Audit firm, or currently within an Internal Audit team. Possessing a style that has gravitas yet is down-to-earth, resilient and driven is the personality profile sought. It is a must that you have a strong technical understanding of internal controls and what good process controls looks like, to enable you to identify and implement the improvements needed and the ability and willingness to be involved in driving the required changes.
