Our consultancy client is working with a major bank to develop their faster payments gateway. We are seeking an engineering lead to guide the development of a cloud-hosted, microservices-based payment system. Candidates must have extensive experience in payments, be hands-on technically, and possess significant technical leadership experience within a modern Agile environment.
The role involves working closely with the testing lead to ensure the delivery of robust, scalable, and secure software solutions. The responsibilities include:
- Leading the design and delivery of complex payment software projects
- Driving the implementation of microservices using Spring Boot and other modern frameworks
- Championing Agile methodologies
- Leading sprints, retrospectives, and planning sessions
- Embedding automation and CI/CD pipelines
- Providing technical mentorship
- Coordinating with product management and stakeholders to meet business objectives
Reporting to the Lab Engineering Lead and Payments Platform Lead, the focus will be on long-term improvements, operational efficiency, and resilience, while ensuring compliance with company standards.
Requirements include:
- Hands-on experience in developing and scaling transaction-heavy payment systems within banking
- Proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and microservice architecture
- A strong understanding of cloud platforms (e.g., GCP, Azure), cloud-native patterns, CI/CD, DevOps automation, and infrastructure-as-code principles
This role can be based in London or Edinburgh, requiring presence in the office 2-3 days per week. The position is inside IR35.
