Our Secondary School Client, who are a mainstream secondary academy in Braintree, are looking for a Head of English to join their team. This role would be suitable for someone who has previously been a Head of English or is looking for a promotion.
The Role: As Head of English, you will be responsible for the strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the English department. You will inspire a team of dedicated teachers, drive student achievement, and ensure a rich, challenging, and engaging curriculum that fosters a love of literature and language.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership and direction for the English department
- Lead curriculum planning, delivery, and development across KS3–KS4 (and KS5 if applicable)
- Monitor and drive improvements in teaching, learning, and student outcomes
- Mentor and support staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team
- Use data and assessment effectively to raise achievement
- Champion literacy across the school and support cross-curricular initiatives

- A qualified teacher with QTS and a proven track record of excellence in English teaching
