What’s the role?
The core purpose of this role is to deliver a safe, efficient and resilient Baggage System – a system that manages one of the three major flows within the Airport (the others being aircraft and passenger). This involves taking full accountability for the Baggage Systems to ensure high levels of system safety, reliability, and availability of one of Gatwick's operationally critical infrastructure systems. The role requires strong leadership of the maintenance team and effective management of third parties and stakeholders.
What you’ll be doing:
- Lead and develop the Baggage Engineering team of highly skilled Technicians to deliver the maintenance plan.
- Ensure optimal performance of the Baggage asset base, including performance improvements to enhance system availability, achieving against OBP / CSS metrics.
- Drive EH&S culture across all teams to reduce incidents and promote a safe working environment.
- Produce effective communication and reports for all stakeholders, such as GAT teams, Airlines, and handling agents to enable smooth operation.
- Manage costs and contracts to ensure adherence to operational budgets.

- Educated to degree level in an engineering discipline preferred; HND level with significant experience accepted.
- Proven proactive leadership to promote health and safety culture, ensuring processes and procedures protect employees and contractors.
- Lead, manage, and develop the baggage team to deliver against Gatwick's strategic priorities.
- Ensure system performance meets and exceeds required OBP and CSS measures.
- Lead failure investigations to determine root causes related to baggage system and operational impacts.
